Dams Safety Legislative changes from 1st November 2021

On Monday 1st November 2021, several requirements under the Dams Safety Regulation 2019 will come into effect. This date will be two years since the new dam's safety legislation commenced in 2019.  Local Government Councils who are declared dam owners are reminded to check that the requirements are met by the specified date.

The requirements coming into effect include:

  • conducting and reporting safety reviews
  • undertaking emergency exercises
  • providing a Dams safety standards report to Dams Safety NSW
  • establishing and implementing a dam safety management system, detailed in Part 5
