2020 Local Roads Conference
Registrations are now open!
The annual NSW Local Roads Congress will be delivered as a virtual conference this year, with sessions on Monday 1st June 2020 and Monday 15th June 2020.
The Roads and Transport Directorate is a joint initiative between IPWEA NSW and Local Government NSW to optimise roads and transport outcomes. The Directorate acts as a focus for research activities, provides technical advice to assist member councils and makes submissions on behalf of its members.
The theme for this year’s event is Connecting the Dots – the connections being Emergency Management, Management of Assets, Road Safety, and Resources – strategic areas which are interrelated and of primary importance to local government. The conference will take place over two session days - the first session will tackle the challenges associated with ‘Saving lives on local roads’ and the second session will focus on ‘Providing high quality infrastructure to the community’.
As in the past, each registered council staff member will be able to nominate a Councillor for a complimentary registration. In addition, attending the conference will add 6 hours to every delegates' CPD points thereby assisting public work engineers with maintaining professional development.
The first NSW Local Roads Congress was held in December 2005 and has been held annually since then. The purpose of the Congress is aimed at Mayors / Councillors / Directors of Engineering and is intended to address policy issues rather than technical issues.
As it will be a virtual event this year, we will have the opportunity to also invite the wider public works community.
