Simon Vaux - CEO, DEOS Digital

Developing the Digital Asset Lifecycle

As CEO and Co-Founder of DEOS Digital, Simon is an industry pioneer, who is well-regarded for successfully driving digital transformation throughout the infrastructure sector. From 2014-2021, Simon led all aspects of the acclaimed Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Digital Engineering Framework program, from its initial vision through to industry-wide implementation. This program has been a significant catalyst for change, transforming public sector digital capability and driving a step change in overall industry productivity.

Simon held various leadership roles within TfNSW since 2007, and was responsible for the engineering of major heavy rail projects in and around Sydney. Prior experience includes various client and consulting roles with Transport for London, London Underground and various motorway projects around NSW. He is a regular speaker at public events, a mentor to young professionals and a keen promoter of civil and digital engineering.

Overview of the Spatial Digital Twin Program

Department of Customer Service – Spatial Services

Wayne is the Director of Spatial Operations for NSW Spatial Services and is responsible for a number of programs including the production and maintenance of the NSW Foundation Spatial Data Framework and the NSW Spatial Digital Twin. Wayne has 25 plus years’ experience in the spatial industry covering a range of disciplines from Operations to Strategy and Policy development. Wayne is the ANZLIC NSW Contact Officer and member of ICSM.




Camden Council 3D modelling project

Gaya has several years of experience leading data, technology, and innovation teams at multiple levels of government including state and local. More recently at Camden Council, Gaya was instrumental in the development of their Digital Innovation Strategy and an associated five-year roadmap for Council. This strategy includes a dedicated workstream for smart city initiatives. She is a seasoned Enterprise Architect who understands the importance of business and technology alignment and has a keen interest in data analytics as well as cyber security.

Hayley Barnes -

Manager Strategic Placemaking, Georges River Council

Starting the Smart Places Journey

Hayley joined Georges River Council to coordinate the merger program in 2017. Since that time Hayley has worked to shape the future of the Georges River Area through strategy, innovation and advocacy. Hayley is now Manager Strategic Placemaking, a new unit within Georges River Council, with responsibility for the strategic planning of Councils Asset Management.

Hayley has lead Councils first Smart Cities program and is passionate about creating great places for the community to enjoy. Formal qualifications include a Diploma in Project Management, Bachelor of Population Health and Politics and an Advanced Masters in International Studies from Wollongong University.

Digital transformation and Telematics: Case Study with Onsite Traffic Management

As a Transport Solutions Specialist at Teletrac Navman, Shannon works with the transport solutions team and is based out of Sydney, Australia. He has demonstrated industry leadership in fleet safety for more than 30 years and brings over 20 years of transport industry experience in Operations and Compliance management.

Shannon grew up in the transport industry and has been the forkie, crane operator, driver, ops manager and later an NHVR accredited HVA auditor and Project Manager that has worked with both transport companies and off-road parties to deliver compliance and Transport Safety outcomes across the country.


Jim French is the Australasian Solution Specialist for Construction Equipment at Teletrac Navman, responsible for the delivery of internal and channel construction product training and assisting with new business development opportunities in the construction vertical.

Jim’s experience spans over 25 years in the construction mining and survey industry, with particular focus on GPS products, Fleet and asset management systems & Machine Control and Guidance. He has worked with many brands of machine GPS systems and extensive experience with Caterpillar fleet management systems. His experience includes working with customers to provide complete Job site solutions, job site analysis, fleet analysis and resource analysis.
